Last year, the Williamson Family celebrated 125 years of farming at Lochinver in Australia. Originally a part of Charlotte Plains Run, then the Williamson’s friends from Aberdeenshire, Scotland, William and Margaret Tawse Paterson established here a typical Scottish Australian Farm in the 1850s.
They invited the current John Williamson’s grandfather also John, to come and assist them. He arrived as a 21 year old in 1891. By 1907, he and his wife Blanche had bought the property then known a Inglewood Farm and it was renamed Lochinver. It became the base for livestock breeding and cropping, the herd of Shorthorn Cattle and prime lamb ewes reflect this today.
Today, John and his wife Alison manage the property of 1000 acres with their son, Charles.
There is a wonderful family history going back to farming in Aberdeen Scotland to modern day rural life on an Australia farm property, nothing gets thrown out easily.
Now Lochinver Farm Homestead & Cottages provide historic farm stay accommodation at Carisbrook, in the Goldfields Region of Victoria. An opportunity to soak up the peaceful atmosphere of our heritage country property, staying in one of the homesteads or in an original cottage.
This is the ideal place for you to spend your next holiday and witness first hand a working farm steeped in history or take a stroll along the banks of the Tullaroop Creek and see if you can spot the platypus that live along the banks.
This traditional family farm is a hidden treasure from a bygone era, tucked in the valley of Tullaroop Creek in 800 acres of beautiful grazing & cropping farmland. It was built by Scottish Settlers when this part of Victoria was swarming with men and women each looking to stake their own piece of gold which would change their lives.
People still visit this stunning area of Australia to change their life but the change no longer comes though gold, it comes through a sense of peacefulness and relaxation. If you would prefer to head out for a day of activities there is a great golf course nearby perfect for a round or head and sample some of the fine local produce. At night, come back for a hot spa and then relax with a BBQ, a glass of fine local wine & discuss the plans for tomorrow.
